Prepare for a journey beyond preconceptions and misconceptions. Dorothy from Kansas Meets the Wizard of X takes a behind the scenes look at the world of adult films. Through a series of in-depth articles with several actors and actresses, most specifically actor/director Eric Edwards, Linda Alexander presents an unbiased account. We are privy to the changes the adult film industry has undergone from a struggling-to-survive industry to a multi-billion dollar industry that is here to stay. Learning about Eric Edwards as a person, as an actor and as a loving father determined to do what is best for his children gives a different view to popular belief that adult film actors and actresses are in it for kicks or are twisted beings. However, just as normal everyday people are different and have different motivations, so do some of the actors and actresses. You can't judge the entire industry because of a select few as Ms. Alexander shows.
I began reading Dorothy from Kansas, determined to keep an open mind throughout the entire novel. Much like Linda Alexander, who describes herself as "Dorothy", I had to challenge my own thoughts and learn to see the person behind the preconceived notion. While I'm still not a fan of adult films, I don't automatically look down at the people who make these films. Dorothy from Kansas isn't for anyone who wishes to have more reason to hate the adult film industry. It is for those looking to challenge society's beliefs and their own beliefs. An eye-opening read.
