Annja Creed is an archaeologist, though she pays her bills by researching and presenting features on a show known as Chasing History's Monsters on cable. This time, she's in France searching for the true story of La Bête, which some claim was a werewolf. However, someone is following her and they're working for a man with an agenda, one that doesn't bode well for Annja. Yet a brush with an almost immortal or two and a sword belonging to Joan of Arc sets Annja on an adventure that might just kill her before she truly understands her path in the fight between Good and Evil.

Alex Archer has done an interesting job melding history, speculation, and action. Though there were times when I felt a bit lost in the action, overall, the pace and the storyline will keep you reading to the very end. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I hope that the author will continue to get better with every book.
