Julie Collins knew something wasn't right when Tony Martinez hired her to look into a child custody case. First off, he hired her to keep his right-hand man from doing something stupid. Then there's the fact, not long after talking with the child's father, someone shoots at them and succeeds in wounding the only person who knew where the little girl was. As she investigates the mother's life, everything in her life goes to hell as she learns many people don't want the new casino to open. Oh and let's not forget the fact, her abusive father is pushing her to side with the ranchers in the casino dispute. Her main concern is how a missing child ties into the mess.

An East-coast mob family, a scheming local business man, disgruntled ranchers, an absent business partner, not to mention the handsome leader of the local biker gang, Tony Martinez...could Julie's life get any crazier? Nothing is as it seems and while she's learning more about the darker side of human life than she thought possible, none of it has brought her any closer to finding the missing child. When she finally unravels the truth, will it prove to be too late for the little girl?

Lori Armstrong has created a outstanding tale in Hallowed Ground. Gripping from beginning to end, this is one book you want to read without interruptions. While there were a few scenes I found a bit too graphic, they were tastefully written and added to the suspense level. Enough back story is given to make the reader want to read Lori's previous title involving Julie Collins, Blood Ties.

Hallowed Ground is going straight to my keeper shelf where I'm sure it and its predecessor Blood Ties will received plenty of rereads while I wait (most impatiently) for the next book with Julie Collins.

When Julie Collins learns her brother Ben has been murdered, she packs all her belongings and moves to Bear Butte County. She accepts a job with the local sheriff's office hoping to use the post to her advantage in finding his killer.

Her best friend Kevin Wells is a local PI whom occasionally asks Julie to work with him on cases. When a local girl goes missing and is then found dead Kevin asks Julie for help. They soon learn that the disappearance has everything to do with one horrible act committed seventeen years earlier. And one man is determined that no one will ever learn the secret.

Blood Ties by Lori G. Armstrong is a thrilling roller of a mystery that taunts you to try and solve the riddle. The suspense was superb, keeping you glued to the page. Your subconscious urging you to read just one more page, get one more piece of the puzzle.

The story is fabulous, I simply adored the characters, but I found the ending unsatisfying. I hope there will be another book planned in order to really give a satisfying end to this story, but overall, I enjoyed it tremendously. I would definitely read more by this author.
