All Melinda remembers when she woke up in a dark, strange place is almost being torn to shreds and left for dead. When the last person she remembers seeing walks into the room she is in now, she fears for her life all over again. He tries to reassure her that he means her no harm and that she is in no danger from him. She has two choices to make and she tries his patience trying to decide: she could die here or he could help her survive in the ultimate way.
At first, Valdemar believes he made the right decision in "helping" her but he cannot understand why she does not share the same feelings. He truly believed she would be better off with him than dead. When she meets his friends Kirsten, Moira, Adrian, and Cornelius, she slowly comes to realize just whom she can trust and who to stay clear from.
Even though Melinda is no longer human, she still values human life and she will never get over the realization of what she is and what she must to do stay alive. With the help of Valdemar and Kirsten, she slowly comes to terms with her new life although she will never forgive Valdemar for what he did to her but she does not hate him. She only wishes stay out of his life.
After a few years, she meets up with Kirsten again. Melinda believes something terrible is about to happen, that someone is about to cause havoc in the city, and together, they try figure out what is about to happen and who is involved.
Once she realizes who is behind the disaster that is about to happen, she tries to stop them. Her attempts almost fail as many people lose their lives and she almost loses her own.
She decides that she has had enough of this life and heads far north where the winters are long and totally dark for months on end. Will she ever return to Toronto? Will she ever come to terms with herself, with who she is now? Will she ever want to see Valdemar again?
What a roller coaster ride of excitement!! The Bleeding Sun is one novel that I won't soon forget. The storyline is based over a decade or more but you stay right with the characters for the whole timeline without losing track of the whole gist of it. Once you pick it up to start reading, you won't want to put it down. Poor Melinda runs into situation after situation that any person (or vampire) would want to give up and quit but she stays strong. In the end, she realizes that you just have to take life (and everything that comes with it) as it comes to you

She was safe in her bed, in her home. But how? The last thing she remembered was trying to find her phantom in the darkened park when two men started following her. As she searches the depths of her memory, Aimee realizes her rescuer was her phantom and she is determined to look for him again.
Working at the shelter's outreach service, Aimee knew all the street people rather well. Then he appeared, dark and mysterious with his haunted eyes. In her two years, none had captured her sympathy or heart more quickly than he. But who was he and why did he always disappear when she went looking for him?
Cursed years before when after making his fortune, he forgot his own humble beginnings and turned away an old woman looking for shelter from the night. He had accepted his life and while he might have longed to be freed from the curse at one time, he knew it could never be. Aimee's kindness and thoughtfulness had won his heart, but would her love be enough to break the curse?
Short but sweet, A Darker Passion is a beautiful Beauty and the Beast type story. Tristan conceals so much, yet his gentleness and thoughtfulness endear him to the reader. Aimee's beauty comes entirely from within - as we are not privy to descriptions of her face or form - almost every action she makes it is for others. Ms. Bedwell-Grime is a talented author and I for one look forward to reading more of her work.
