Nyx had always hoped she would do something fantastic and extraordinary with her life, but it didn't seem like that would ever happen. Until the day Deyja moved into her apartment. Now she's being chased by shadows and being rescued by a hunky vampire who is overjoyed to see her. Taken to Draca, the eighth continent on Earth, she learns she is a part of a prophecy and will be the saviour of her world. No one will answer her questions as to why she's important and who she is; they all tell her HE will explain everything in time.
What Nyx doesn't know is that she is Phoenix. A powerful warrior who will lead the warrior vampire group Xpire against the Circle and reclaim freedom for the humans. She is destined to be the bride of Kain, leader of Xpire. But first she must rescue Kain and the five other members of Xpire from the clutches of the Circle.
Xpire...a group of great warriors, feared and respected by humans and vampires alike. The stories say when sixteen years ago, Xpire was defeated by The Circle but would one day return. Nyx really isn't sure what to make of what's happening to her. Everyone expects her to be some hero, but she's unaware of the power she wields or what she will have to sacrifice to defeat the Circle and drive back an ancient demon.
An intriguing story, Xpire takes readers on a thrill ride that never seems to end. A new author, Sy Blade does an unbelievable job bringing the characters and this world to life. And there is so much to this story...at over 600 pages, it's a long book. At times, you forced to take a break as the intensity of the story and what Nyx is experiencing is overwhelming. However, the first person point of view is a bit distracting as we're only allowed to see what's going on with the heroine. It's really hard to get a good reading of the villains and other characters. In addition, there is no sense of a time frame; only remarks that indicated weeks, even months, have passed. The pacing of the story is thrown off a bit by a few oddly worded and choppy sentences, yet the story itself is so intriguing that only the observant will catch them.
So why the high marks? Well...the story itself is that out of the ordinary and enthralling. There is so much happening in the story, so many fascinating characters and hints of sequels that I found myself not wanting to put the book down. I know I'll be waiting for the next book as the ending, while wrapping up this storyline, left me screaming "No, I want to see what happens next!".
Utterly engrossing, Xpire will leave you begging for more!
