After her parents' death, Sophronisbe (Sophy) Lee takes a post as a teacher at a charity school. Not an exciting job by any means, but it beat the poorhouse or prostitution. Her escape from the drudgery of everyday life was reading; she often dreamed of adventure. One day a solicitor calls at the school and informs her that her uncle died and named her in his will. In his will, he stipulates Sophy must journey to his home as he has papers there she must read before she can claim her inheritance. She journeys to her uncle's estate, looking forward to the break from school.

To her surprise, Sophy learns her uncle has given her choice: take the money remaining in his accounts or keep his house. In the event, she decide to keep the house, the remaining monies were to be used to finance a quest. And what it an odd quest, it was too. She was to take an egg, a dragonne's eg, to the Far East and she had a year to complete the journey.

Sophy didn't know what to do, but decided to read the history of the supposed dragonne's eg her uncle had so generously included. In the study cabinet with the egg was a small statue; her uncle said it was a Ky-Lin. After reading the story of the dragonne's eg and the adventures befalling its previous bearer, Summer, she finds herself wanting to accept the quest. But a part of her thinks it's complete nonsense and urges her to take the money. Will she return the eg and experience the adventure she's always longed for? Or will she do the logical thing and take the money?

A masterful novel by a talented author, Dragonne's Eg takes place a hundred years after Master of Many Treasures. I loved revisiting Ky-Lin and learning what befell the Eg. Ms. Brown's writing is fluid and entrancing; I started reading and didn't stop until the book ended. Don't miss!
