Is the concept of a Sabbath rest legalistic or a necessary form of leisure? Spiritually perceptive author Mark Buchanan tackles this controversial topic with some compelling evidence.
In a world where time reigns, the idea of setting a day apart for a Sabbath rest seems impossible. Yet, these pages quietly show the vital significance of this belief. Using the Bible as his final authority, the author adds piercing insights and personal examples to demonstrate this teaching. There is a determined orderliness in this book as readers follow the historical and spiritual progression of the Sabbath, culminating in a very personal application.
While this topic has already generated much discussion among Christians, the author makes a significant contribution. By using the term "Sabbath" as both a specific day of the week as well as an attitude of the heart, this subject leaves the halls of legalism and enters a new dimension. Time is not viewed as a commodity, but as a blessing to be enjoyed and savored. The purposeful relinquishment of our time is an outward act of our inner trust in the Lord. Believers can confidently rest because they have perfect faith in God to watch over them.
The writing is filled with creative and descriptive phrases, which allows this subject to transcend theological jargon and go straight to the heart of readers. Without being dogmatic, the author has presented a solid case for the keeping of the Sabbath. Christians will easily see the benefits and the blessings associated with this practice and may even allow the author's gentle enthusiasm to lead them into The Rest of God.
