The present always holds shadows from the past. However, when Caleb Harrison stepped out of 1836 and into the present century, the shadow of the past became a handsome and virile man with a questionable future.

Caleb felt an immediate attraction to Becci Berclair. In many ways, she reminded him of the recently widowed, Rebecca Berclair, to whom he was going to propose before stumbling into the future. Although the two women were related and therefore shared some physical similarities, it was Becci who captured Caleb's heart as no other woman had ever done. Yet, all they had was the present, because Caleb needed to return to the past to fulfill a vow, thus leaving Becci to face the future alone.

But can the future touch the past? Is love stronger than time?

Author Barbara Christopher has created a thoroughly irresistible story with an equally irresistible character in Caleb. This time travel romance is fast-paced, fascinating, and full of delightful scenes. From the moment Caleb steps into the twenty-first century, the reader is treated to culture shock through his eyes. There is the perfect touch of comic relief as Caleb explores such new inventions as a car alarm and indoor plumbing.

Yet, romance is only part of this exceptional novel. The issue of time travel through the powers of the Atlantis orichalc will be explored. It seems that Caleb is the keeper of the key of time through this mysterious medallion. The orichalc is able to change the past into a better future, but becomes deadly for those who follow greed. This merging of past and present lent an unusual dimension to the story. Readers will be interested to learn why Caleb traveled to the present, as well the reason for his urgency to return to the past.

The author created a sizzling romantic tension between the main characters. The obstacles that confront them are not of the ordinary variety, and the reader is urged onward to see if they will have a future. Caleb is a thoroughly rugged working man from the 1800's, while Becci is a modern woman who exhibits the gentleness and grace of an earlier era. Together, they make the perfect pair, but first they need to confront the past before they can think about any tomorrows.

Keeper of the Key is a romance that truly stands the test of time.
