What are teenaged girls reading? Who is speaking to them about morality and spiritual growth? Hopefully, they'll pick up a copy of TeenVirtue Confidential. This 'magabook' has the visual appeal of a glossy magazine with candid insights into contemporary issues.
With the increasing number of news stories about 'girls gone wild', this publication offers young women a Christian perspective on subjects like dating, popularity and even what to wear. The articles have a fresh voice, clearly showing a grasp of the current culture, while highlighting the biblical standards. Fun quizzes give readers a chance to see how they rank on important issues, while straightforward answers from guys reveal what characteristics they truly value in a girl.
Author Vicki Courtney is the founder of Virtuous Reality Ministries, an online magazine targeting middle school and high school girls. Her knowledge and understanding of this age group is seen in the insightful as well as creative format of this new book. Photos and sidebars create an appealing visual effect, while the narrative has an honest, forthright feel. No subject is off limits, as factual explanations about sex, body changes and emotional development are discussed with a genuine desire to educate. However, at no time does this book come across as being 'preachy' Spiritual insights are smoothly and naturally contrasted with contemporary mindsets, gently emphasizing their differences while exposing the lies that permeate our society.
But perhaps the best thing about TeenVirtue Confidential is its personal approach. In a wonderfully 'magabook' way, these pages speak with the familiarity and love of a trusted friend.
