This book is one of the most widely known and used books by those who practice and live by Wiccan principles. From the origin of Wicca through some of the basic rituals and holidays, Scott Cunningham discusses it in an easy to understand manner.
Scott shares his insight and his knowledge in such a way, you find it easy to work alone as a practioner of Wicca, even if you are part of a coven. His indepth presentations of the holidays, magickal signs and symbols, and rituals help you to understand and feel close to the gods and to the earth. He emphasizes how the magick and spells help you to alter your personal reality to help bring about the changes you want to happen. He has one of the best definitions of magick that I've ever seen.
His discussion of shamanism and the altered perceptions was right on target. The talk of deities and how they fit in our lives, the place they have during rituals was on target and clear as a bell. He gives you step by step directions in creating an altar, consecration of your tools, how to do a circle, and how to do each ritual. Each is clear, concise, and he even gives you ideas on interpretations.
Though Scott Cunningham has passed away, his work lives on. His immortality is ensured by this definitive classic dealing with the practice of Wicca. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and its explanations. Throughout the book, I felt like I was lovingly guided as I learned each step of the process of being Wiccan and how Wiccans differ and how they're similar. Not once did I ever feel talked down to or that it was too hard to understand. This book is perfect for beginners and advanced alike. For those who practice Wicca, I'd have this terrific reference work close by at all times.
