Showdown will leave readers spellbound! Thirty-seven children were secluded in a monastery as part of a bold experiment to find the source of evil. The nearby town of Paradise paid the price.

Calling this story unique is an understatement. Ted Dekker has successfully laced a contemporary thriller with searing spiritual principles. His insights into human nature are outstanding! Readers will be mesmerized by the actions of Marsuvees Black, who appears as both savior and savage. As Black enters the town of Paradise, the thoughts of each person's heart are exposed and exploited. Each page unveils another layer of evil until the action climaxes with the blood-curdling scream of a child. Although readers may be afraid to turn the page, they will be powerless to stop.

These pages resonant with an unbridled reality. The author strikes a universal chord of humanity and readers will shudder with the implications and illuminations. The story is drawn with vivid and graphic word pictures that enter the mind and arouse the soul. Christian concepts and conundrums are explored in a fictional world that teeters on the brink of facts.

Expect the unexpected and don't get comfortable. Although this is a work of fiction, there are some amazing truths presented. The author's clear-sighted convictions are brought to life in this contemporary parable. Good versus evil is fought in a whole new arena with authentic characters and a completely modern setting. This quest for the ultimate answer leads to a contest never seen before.

Showdown is a knock out!

The Slumber of Christianity is a ringing alarm without a snooze button! Christian readers will feel the urgency in this book, as they understand the implications of its message.

Author Ted Dekker is searching for authentic Christianity. And let's face it, who isn't? These pages reveal some well thought out conclusions, which should compel readers to wake up to a real and life-threatening problem in the church. Christians are not living for eternity. Rather, they have fallen asleep to the lullabies of earthly success. The result is a group of believers who have traded the hope of their hidden life in Christ for the transient treasures of this world.

The book is divided into two parts. First, the author takes a close look at the reasons why the lives of Christians are not any different than people of other beliefs. Although the Bible is filled with awesome promises, why don't believers have the passion for God's power in their lives?

The second half of the book offers ways to awaken from this slumber to experience a more abundant life. The author's expertise as a novelist leads him to make a most interesting connection between fiction, imagination and the ability to conceptualize the hope of heaven. When Christians lose their vision, they are in danger of perishing. Ted Dekker suggests ways of rekindling the hope that may be sleeping in the heart.

Without a doubt, this book has the power to convict and challenge readers. This reviewer only has one suggestion. Don't read The Slumber of Christianity before going to bed. The ideas presented here are guaranteed to keep your eyes open to a whole new view of eternity!
