The Long Mile is one man's frantic race for fairness. Written with a compelling combination of suspense and insightful glimpses into the nature of mankind, these pages step into a world that wars against truth and justice. Readers will be instantly caught up in the story, thanks to the staccato-like scenes that flash with a sense of reality and terror.
John Shannon, detective with the New York Police Department, was framed for murder. After his appeal earned him a release from prison, he sets out to clear his name. However, a conspiracy of corruption thwarts his every move, while drawing him closer to the center of the mystery.
Fast paced and thrilling, this story captures the essence of detective work. Police protocol and procedures contrast sharply with hard-earned clues and tips gathered in terror. Violence, deceit and despair stalk the main character, surrounding him with an electrifying atmosphere. The streets of the city become a battleground, causing Shannon to tread carefully around a minefield of malice. When his son is kidnapped, a fearless and reckless search begins, ending only when the last page is turned.
Yet, the author also exposes a gentler side of Shannon as he struggles to put his life and family back together. His thirst for truth and justice garners sympathy from readers, while swiftly moving the story forward. An interesting addition is the inclusion of Yoruba folklore, which is smoothly incorporated into the novel and offers meaningful motivation for the main character.
Excellent writing, vivid action and a plot with power make The Long Mile worth every step.
