Catherine's life is good and while she knows something is missing, she's content. Content, until the Feast of St. Remi when the young noblewoman Lydia walked into her shop. There was something about the woman that calls to Catherine. No matter how hard she tries to dismiss and banish Lydia from her thoughts, Catherine finds herself unable to succeed.
Lydia fell in love the moment she laid eyes on the herbalist. She had to be near her even if Catherine didn't feel the same way. So enamored of Catherine, she finds a way to be near her, Lydia asks to her to teach her the healing arts of herbs.
As the two spend time together their feelings for each other deepen. Yet while their love is obvious in many ways, neither will speak their love. Will they ever be able to confess the truth and gain their hearts' desires?
Book one of the Briarcrest Chronicles is a beautiful testament to the power of love. Catherine and Lydia loved each other deeply and were willing to do whatever necessary to be together. Even if it necessitated being apart until Lydia's father changed his mind about her marriage to a French nobleman or died.
Ms. Furtado has crated a magnificent tale of love, rich with dimensional characters, herbal lore and medieval details. I fell in love with Catherine, Lydia and the other people important to them. Sweet, tender, truly remarkable, The Heart's Desire is not to be missed.
