Dark Hour illuminates a turbulent time in Israel's history, as it skillfully highlights the triumphs and tragedies of this time period. The excellent writing of Ginger Garrett brings these moments to life with vividly created characters, dynamic dialogue, and unwavering accuracy of the biblical record.
Based on the events in II Chronicles, chapters 21 through 23, this novel focuses on the reign of King Jehoram of Judah and the insidious influence of his wife, Queen Athaliah. The action is mostly viewed through the perspective of Jeroram's daughter, Jehoshebeth. Because this girl was of the holy lineage of King David, she was seen as a threat to Athaliah and her worship of false gods. A series of well-calculated moves on the part of the bitter queen were intended to permanently remove Jehoshebeth's influence, but the God of Israel steps into the narrative in a decisive way.
A realistic touch of fiction colors the main characters in this story with a vibrant physical and spiritual presence. While adhering closely to the biblical record, the author includes appropriate dialogue and offers genuine motivational cues for the characters' actions. The politics and passions of this time period clash with resounding battles that set in motion future chapters of Israel's history. Readers will have a deeper understanding of the men and women who shaped the past and the fear and courage that animated them.
Diabolical maneuvering and Divine intervention vie for ultimate control in this expertly written novel. Author Ginger Garrett offers a faithful and factual account of this struggle.
Dark Hour brilliantly freezes a momentous moment in time!
