The Ooroomoorians of the northern lands are a feline race that is lead by She of the North. This feline has a powerful energy within her that allows her to travel into other dimensions. The thing is, She of the North has only used this power once, and that was as a child and she did not understand its meaning. But her prides' knowledge of this internal energy allowed her to rise to the position she now had.

Recently, She of the North was looking at the stars in the night sky as though they were a far-off lover calling to her. She did not understand why she did this, just that there was the knowing feeling that a change was coming. The powerful feline finally comes to understand what is to come and unleashes all the power she has inside.

Once enveloped in her power, She of the North is trapped between dimensions. A dragon named Storoth hears her cries while in the dimensional stream and pulls her out. The dragon soon finds out that the strange cat-like alien does not understand the power she holds, and worse yet, does not know how to get back to her own planet.

Storoth teaches the feline how to change her shape so she can appear as a human. She of the North's feline appearance would terrify the other dragons. The only sign of her real form are her eyes - green with gold slits. This human incarnation comes to be known as the "Sorceress of the Night."

After her training reaches a certain level, it is time for the Sorceress to leave the dragon's lair and go out on her own. Choosing a secluded place where she will not be bothered by the other beings on the planet (who are of many races - some magical), she works on her powers in the hope that some day she can find her way back to her kind.

But as always, fate has a way of interfering. The doings of the locals become part of her life. The Sorceress must now become involved in things she would rather not. What she does not know is that these trials may help her get back home.

In the beginning, I believed that this book was going to be about the Sorceress' quest to return home to her own kind. Instead it ended up being something like a walk through a nature park whose trails seem to go around and around, but head nowhere. This is because the story is complicated and has a lot of twists and turns.

Not that this is a bad thing. It forced me to pay close attention to what was going on at all times. I must admit that in the beginning it was a bit confusing when none of the characters seemed to have names, but only titles. Although, after a bit, I got used to it and the story began to really flow.

Overall, I found this an interesting book to read. Because of the complexities I had to read it a bit slower than I do other stories. This should not deter anyone from reading it, just be prepared that this is not the sort of book that you can breeze through in an afternoon or evening.
