Do you know the secret? Although millions have purchased Rhonda Byrne's bestseller, The Secret, Christians should be aware of several theological flaws in her work. Author Ed Gungor provides a readable and reliable critique of Byrne's book, as he highlights some missing pieces in her logic.
Let me make one thing clear-- There is More to the Secret is not an attack on a popular book, nor is it a slick marketing scheme to 'ride the coattails' of someone else's success. Rather, these pages are a respectful, candid and sincere look at the flaws inherent in the Law of Attraction. As Ed Gungor examines this concept, he readily accepts the idea that there is some biblical evidence for this thinking, yet warns of the danger when God, who set this law in motion, is not recognized.
Written with the author's classic, conversational tone, these pages provide thoughts that should be explored by anyone who is interested in Byrne's book. While the belief and application of the Law of Attraction is explosive and exciting, delving into the religious aspect is necessary and should complement the emotional allure of this idea. The author encourages readers to come alongside him as he explains this life-transforming strategy in view of scriptural truths. While his approach is easy-going and casual, there is a definite power and purpose to his words, as he desires to point out the very real pitfalls.
This relatively short book is packed with vital insights that are backed up with Scripture verses. In an even-handed analysis in which the success of Byrne's principles are contrasted with the reality of God's law, Ed Gungor actually adds to The Secret, by removing some obstacles that could cause a Christian to stumble in his walk with the Lord.

This offbeat presentation is right on target! Author Ed Gungor uses wit, warmth, and a wealth of powerful ideas to shake the complacency from today's Christians. As this pastor smoothly steps into the role of spiritual physician, he accurately diagnoses some common and often contagious maladies.
Have you every heard of Syncretitus, Pharisaic Disorder or Last-Days Flu? Probably not, but according to this book, these 'diseases' abound in the local pews. Readers will naturally smile at some of these illnesses and their accompanying symptoms, but will also eventually feel the sting of the author's point. In many ways, his words are like a vaccine, exposing his audience to the ailments, while trying to inoculate them from the dangers of it.
Honesty and candor are evident throughout the book, providing a tangible sense of realism. It's obvious the author understands the mindset of today's Christians, while appreciating their genuine love for the Lord. It's a delicate task to objectively point out the inconsistencies in the lives of believers, yet with a delightful touch of humor and a generous application of love, he does just that. Readers will see themselves in these pages, and will be encouraged to shake off the sicknesses to pursue a greater level of spiritual health.
The use of the medical angle allows this subject to be approached with the slicing conviction of a scalpel, and the soothing anointing of the Holy Spirit's healing. The author's creativity and compassion flow out of these pages like good medicine.
Religiously Transmitted Diseases offers real cures for today's Christians.
