Josie and Jack have been best friends since they were both little. Often they would go to the bar together and "play the game". A game they made up where they would go to the bar and get points if they guessed correctly what the opposite sex would do to flirt with them or get their attention. Sometime they would use one another to enhance the appeal they would have on the opposite sex.
Josie just broke up with her latest boyfriend a few months ago and Jack had finally talked her into going to the bar with him to play their game and get her mind off of her troubles. They sit, have a few drinks and start to play the game but when Jack takes Josie out on the dance floor for some dirty dancing, she finds sexual feelings for Jack creeping in on her subconscious. This is her best friend, Jack; she's not suppose to notice how good they fit together when dancing, or how hot and hard his body feels pressed up against hers or how his big hands send tingles down her spine everywhere they touch. It must be the drinks that are suddenly making her feel this way, right? Josie wasn't sure; all she did know was that she couldn't let Jack know about her feelings for fear of losing her best friend forever.
Playing the Game is a short but very enjoyable, hot story written by Megan Hart. Ms. Hart did a wonderful job describing the characters and making them three dimensional or "real" by describing their emotions and feelings. The story was well told and while the sex was hot, it was also sweet and romantic because you could feel how much Josie and Jack really cared for one another. Playing the Game is a wonderfully sensual story and one that should not be missed.

Hallie Deacon embarks on a journey that she thinks will lead to marriage with her childhood sweetheart, yet feels stifled by her decision and unable to be herself. When she meets dashing riverboat captain, Alex Reeves, the floodgates to the longings of her heart are opened. In each other, Alex and Hallie find kindred spirits. But their love isn't so easily maintained, as they fight circumstances keeping them apart.
I found this story delightful, the same deeply emotional moments I've come to expect from Ms. Hart. Her stories are always poignant, and the depth of characters keep me riveted to the page. For me, the best part was seeing the growth of the characters throughout the story, not only the protagonists, but even those I wouldn't have found myself rooting for otherwise. Equally important, I think, were some of the small twists that she put on the story that made what could have been the same old plot of woman being engaged to a rich man falling for a poorer man, something exciting and extremely interesting.
I can't give this story high enough praise, as it was incredibly moving and touching. If she hadn't already been an author for the keeper shelf, I'd definitely be putting Megan Hart there now. I'm definitely looking forward to reading whatever she has to offer in the future. For me, Megan Hart is an auto buy.
