Caitleen (Caite) O'Neal is finally escaping the gambling world of her father. Her father has lost her in a gamble to a dandy, Drake Hammond. To avoid marrying him, Caite registers herself as a mail order bride with Pastor Jonas at the Baptist Church. When the kindly pastor assures her that Jed Peters, the man she would marry would provide for her, she willingly boards a train to Lonesome. But she starts having second thoughts when she meets Jed himself. He blows hot one minute and cold another minute. Yet she gradually finds herself falling in love with him and gladly loses her virginity to him. Only when she reaches Heatherfield ranch, Jed's home, does she come to know that she is supposed to marry his father Jed Peters. The identical names of father and son are the cause of confusion. What can she do now? Can she sacrifice her love for duty?
Jedson (Jed) Peters is not too enamoured with the fact that his father is marrying a mail order bride. The feeling is reinforced when he meets Caite. He thinks she is a hoyden who has come to marry his father but is shameless enough to flirt with him. She seems innocent in one moment and a whore in another. Yet he finds her spellbinding and irresistible. He ruthlessly seduces her, thinking that if she is not guilty, then neither will he be. But he is confused to know she's a virgin. His guilt becomes unbearable when he discovers that she thought she was going to marry him. How can he give her up for his father? How can he take her away from his father?
Lonesome Bride is stimulating, scintillating and sparkling. Megan's dialogues are quick-witted and lively. The predicament and guilt of the main characters is painstakingly real and detailed. The character development deserves a special mention since all the characters are given apt importance and presented adequately. The sizzling passion between Jed and Caite is sometimes as tumultuous as a whirlwind and sometimes delicate as a gentle breeze. Megan has executed it all so appealingly.
Megan's sense of humour left me grinning from ear to ear. I would like to mention a phrase that Megan uses here - "his erection wilted like steamed spinach". This one had me grinning the whole day. I am grinning even now as I write this review.
Lonesome Bride is a timely cure for loneliness!

In Megan Hart's story, Playing the Game, we saw how Josie and Jack gave into temptation and moved their close friendship to the next level. Opening The Door is part two of Josie and Jack's story.
Josie and Jack have been best friends since childhood. They were always there for one another in thick and thin...during the good times and the bad. Seven months earlier they finally succumbed to the very strong feelings they felt for one another. Since then, their feelings grew more intense and more deep, the sex very hot. The only problem they encountered was how to tell their parents that they were now lovers.
Josie's mom called to ask if she was coming home for the holiday and to make sure she brings Jack (who was like a son to her) along, especially since his parents would be there as well. Josie and Jack wanted to let their parents know about their new level of friendship but every time Josie tried to bring the subject up with her mom she would get caught up in the whirlwind that was her mother. Maybe before they left her mom's they would get a chance to let their parents know that she and Jack were now a couple. Will Josie and Jack be able to contain the strong sexual pull and make it through the hectic holiday with their parents, siblings and many friends? What will their family think once they find out? Is marriage and the whole nine yards something they both want? Because they are certain that once their parents find out Jack and Josie are together that is what they will be pushing them towards.
Opening the Door is a short but very sweet romantic story. The hero and heroine are people that you know and love, people who you will have no problem identifying with and the sex is loving and very hot. As you are reading the story you can tell that both Josie and Jack care very much for one another. They have a relationship that everybody wishes to have. The caring, the consideration, and the love they have for one another. Megan Hart is a wonderful author and her stories are always ones that will pull the reader in from page one and not let go until you reach the end. Her stories are a mixture of humor, romance and intense sex, which make for a very fun read. Playing the Game and Opening the Door are two stories that are definitely must-reads and one I highly recommend.
