Once a guard in the Mistress' (her half-sister) employ, her comments against the Entertainment had caused her to be demoted and landed her a position as healer to the beasts (slaves) who fought in the Entertainments. Honey Wine didn't like any of the slaves she cared for, but she hated the latest capture. Something about him irritated her and she wasn't at all gentle in tending to his wounds. Taking care of slaves destined for death wasn't at all how she thought her life would be, but escape was virtually impossible and she had long given up hope.

It is only after learning the newest capture is a member of the Knights of the Ruby Order, a group of warriors dedicated to healing and protecting the weak, does Honey begin to believe escape might be possible and her feelings for him begin to change. She doesn't see him as a slave, but as a man with a strict sense of honor. Such a strict code of honor, he refuses to kill his opponents during the Entertainment and earns a punishment from the most skilled of the Mistress' torturers, the Lady. Honey is forced to watch, her sister's idea of a joke, and is more determined than ever to escape and take the Knight with her.

It is only while Honey cleans his wounds after his torture session does the Knight reveal his name, Torn. Together they plan their escape, but when he is taken to a secret entertainment and forced to fight against a fellow Knight, Torn's hope wanes.

Will they escape from the clutches of the Mistress? Even if they do escape what is to be done about the Entertainments? And what of the growing attraction between Honey and Torn?

Ms. Hill delivers a brilliant start to what promises to be a great series in Knights of the Ruby Order: Torn. Torn is the type of hero you wish truly existed. A knight in the truest sense of the word, with a chivalrous, honest and giving nature. The reader desperately wants to see Torn escape, sighs over the emotional relationship he develops with Honey Wine, and finds it easy to hate the villain. With elements resembling the Knights Templar and even Roman gladiators, Knights of the Ruby Order, Ms. Hill creates a world I personally cannot wait to return to. Don't miss.

She'd been kind enough to heal him, then he claimed her, marked her, bound her to him forever. Sabine Debay is not too pleased with the permanent bond she now has with Galen Donovan. Growing up, Sabine heard enough stories about a Captain Donovan, that the last thing she would have done was to be mated with him.

Galen Donovan needed help, not from Sabine, but from her brother. Unfortunately, Sabine was the only person that could help him and save his life. In doing so, she became linked and sealed to Galen in a mating ritual that was performed when she gave him her blood.

Sabine is extremely frustrated with this arrangement. In time, though, she realizes that she is more upset with herself than with Galen - because, in the heat of passion, she is unable to control her growing emotions and desires for him.

Through tragedy and adventure, Galen and Sabine make a match that gets deeper with time. The lady and the privateer. What an unbelievable match! Even though Galen felt compelled to keep a secret from Sabine, I was very drawn to his character. He was strong, loyal and extremely passionate. Sabine had similar qualities, though they tended to get her into trouble a few times. The deep emotions and passion that Galen and Sabine shared with each other made Moonlust Privateer a very enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Hill.
