In a world where exquisite decorations and lavish menus are the norm, is it even possible to keep things simple and still exude a sense of genuine hospitality? Jane Jarrell shows just how easy it is to not only achieve simple, genuine hospitality but also how to make it your ministry. At its core hospitality is about sharing God's love with others.

Divided into three main sections, each with easy navigable chapters, Simple Hospitality can be read in one sitting or chapters picked out at random. The first section deals with keeping it simple. Not surprisingly this step involves a four-step heart-check.

  1. Assess your current condition. Is there too much stuff in your life?
  2. Address the issues and clarify ways to conquer the situation?
  3. Anticipate challenges to making your life simple.
  4. Abide in Christ.

Jarrell reminds women (and men) true hospitality comes when we are at one with God's will for our lives. If we rely on God, he will give us the strength to survive challenges and allow us to fully minister hospitality.

Section two aptly titled "Home Sweet Home" is packed with ideas, you can effortlessly incorporate to create a haven on earth. With suggestions on decorating, easy meals, must-have staples (for those unexpected guests), garden tips and best of all, quick cleaning techniques, Jarrell offers great encouragement. Making your house a reflection of your personality is an ongoing process and her tips are a blessing.

The final section is all about sharing. Whether it is gift-giving, entertaining or simply taking the time to let someone know you care, every suggestion opens avenues for hospitality.

As a mother of three young children, my love of entertaining had dwindled to nothingness. All the preparations for having people over left me drained and I was so busy chasing after my kids I couldn't enjoy the time spent with my friends. After reading Simple Hospitality I realized my house doesn't have to be pristinely clean or my meals elaborate. Jarrell's words are a fountain of encouragement and support, renewing the spirit while challenging you to a closer relationship with Christ.

Simple Hospitality is simply amazing.
