The Scarlet Trefoil brings the medieval setting to life in all its vibrant colors. The author has captured the charm, courage and convictions of this time period and placed them all in a compelling story. This third book in the series takes the characters a little further along in time, while leading readers deeper into an age that cast shadows upon our present society.

Tahn Dorn has experienced the grace of God, which released him from a painful past and allowed him to plan a future. As he looks ahead to his wedding with Lady Netta, he didn't anticipate his former life interfering with his happiness. Yet, when Netta's carriage is waylaid and she is taken captive, he realizes there is only one way to save her.

Although this novel can stand alone, newcomers to this series should start with the first book to get a better understanding of the relationship issues that make up the background of these characters. The historical setting provides the motivation for their actions, but it's the emotional aspect that draws readers deeper into the story. The love that binds Tahn and Netta mirrors their faith in God and their ultimate trust in His plans. As the kidnapping situation becomes more dangerous and violent, they must set aside their heart's desires to do His will at all cost. Their prayers, whispered and sometimes wavering, reveal their inner turmoil while giving them an inward strength.

The characters are drawn with attention to history, and the evil plans against the young couple are filled with mystery and revenge. This combination causes the story to spark with a genuine sense of reality. Their Christian faith enters the narrative smoothly, providing purpose and meaning to their actions. The hand of God enters the novel with a determined sense of direction, creating a satisfying balance between tragedy and triumph.

The Scarlet Trefoil beautifully combines the three elements of the Christianity - faith, hope and love - in a memorable tale.
