Sunrise certainly lives up to its name. Karen Kingsbury's novel shimmers with golden rays of hope and happiness, as readers come alongside the Baxter family to share their precious moments.
Expertly weaving several plot lines together, the author shifts the focus to various members of this family while gently touching on life's larger issues of faith and love. Dayne and Katy's preparations for their wedding include some unusual elements as they try to stay one step ahead of the paparazzi. John Baxter contemplates love after his wife's untimely death. An alcohol overdose impacts the teen community and teaches some timely truths. All of these situations, portrayed through excellent dialogue and emotionally charged scenes, are found in these pages.
Karen Kingsbury is a skilled storyteller, uniting universal and contemporary issues with the perfect amount of tension and drama. This novel allows the reader to listen in on the characters' conversations and watch life's important events unfold for this special family. This creates a delightful atmosphere of almost walking alongside these wonderful people. More than one reader will wish they could slip through these pages to give them a hug!
The allure of this author's writing comes from her special attention to characterization, as she creates realistic people who share the same struggles and successes as their reading audience. Seemingly commonplace situations take on heightened meaning when seen through the lens of eternity. Kingsbury graciously holds back the veil to the heavenly realm, allowing a glimpse beyond the plot to the One who cares about every circumstance in our lives. By visiting with the Baxter family, readers will walk away from this novel with a renewed sense of the Lord's presence and purpose for their own lives.
Sunrise is a glorious reminder that God's mercies are new every morning.
