Sam Reese had come to Bourner's Crossing to find direction and purpose. A plane crash a year earlier had left him scarred physically and mentally. His chest was criss-crossed with scars and he now had a fear of flying, but it was his new abilities that had him running for shelter. He had the unique ability of healing. He could heal minor injuries just by placing his hands on the person and concentrating. Once news of this got out, he had people lining up at his house hoping he could cure them. It had gotten to the point he couldn't even leave his house without being accosted, hence his stay in Bourner's Crossing.

All he planned to do was hide out in the woods, avoiding people until he decided what to do with his life. So why did he have such a hard time forgetting about the nurse he'd rescued in the forest?

Kate had known better than to try walking home with a storm approaching, but she had thought she would make it. Now she was stranded in the woods with a sprained, or worse, a broken ankle and no way to call for help. The appearance of a tall stranger was welcome, especially since the storm had not only arrived but also picked up in intensity. As he made her comfortable in a small hunting cabin and they talked, she realized he was an enigma. Up until the point where he realized her ankle really hurt, he was all man, strong and tough, yet seeing her in pain made him look queasy.

Sam had no intention of healing Kate's ankle, even though he could. This was exactly why he had left his home. Granted, Kate hadn't asked for his help. It was only after her learned she was the only nurse practioner/midwife for fifty miles, the town doctor was aging and there was no ambulance that Sam knew he had to heal her ankle. Healing her ankle would only take a few minutes and then he'd never have to see her again. Yet the next day, he was back at her house.

Could the attraction he had for Kate ever become anything more once she learned of his gift? Or would she, like everyone else, expect him to use his gift all the time?

Ms. Kirk's Miracles is a brilliant paranormal romance with strong characters and feasible plotline. The depth of emotion Sam and Kate exhibited was so real and palpable; I couldn't help caring for them. I understood exactly what Sam was going through and why he felt the need to run away, yet at the same time like Kate couldn't comprehend why he felt the need to run away from life. Miracles is the perfect novel for anyone who believes in the power of love and those who wonder if finding themselves is worth effort. Highly recommended.
