Lost in the Amazon is amazing! This true story will grip readers with an anaconda-like squeeze, guaranteed to cause rapid heartbeats and frantic turning of the pages!
The author was part of a five-man expedition into a remote part of the Amazon rainforest. A photographer by profession, Stephen Kirkpatrick wanted to capture this undiscovered jungle on film. Yet, these adventurers made a crucial mistake when they relied on a hand-drawn map of an area where no one had ever gone before. Within hours, they were lost in a tropical paradise of tremendous proportions.
Real life is often more interesting than fiction, which is why the story in this book is so startling. The first person point of view grabs the reader by the hand and sets off on an adventure of a lifetime. From the initial planning to the point of no return, all of the details are remembered and recorded. Emotions range from excitement to panic to sheer hopelessness. The enormity of the jungle and the endless avenues of danger are described in vivid detail.
This area of the Amazon rainforest held a dangerous beauty that was creatively captured in words. Alongside pink dolphins and rare birds live some of the world's most dangerous and poisonous creatures. Readers will glimpse the original beauty of Creation, while shuddering at the many ways to die. Thirst, venom or microscopic bacteria are some of the enemies to evade.
While the book centers on the physical adventure, there is also a spiritual dimension. The author was looking for direction in his private life, and these two story threads dovetail in a significant way.
Be sure to find a copy of Lost in the Amazon! This is the type of book that makes reading an exciting adventure!
