These pages explode the myth of perfectly placid and sometimes, plastic, pastors' wives, as the authors present a fictionalized account of four faith-filled women. Mimi, Lisa, Jennifer and Felicia all live in the same community in Red River, Ohio, but they encounter different challenges. As they seek to serve the Lord and their respective congregations, their struggles with contemporary issues and relationship conflicts offer readers spiritual insights as well as hope for their own lives.
The authors are to be applauded for parting the curtains in the homes of these pastors' wives and giving us a peek at their daily balancing acts. The characters in this novel not only contribute to the spiritual well being of their churches, but they also meet the demands of their families and jobs. The scenarios presented spark feelings of compassion and understanding, as they place these pastors' wives within hugging distance. Readers will gain new appreciation of the women who stand alongside their own church leaders as this novel sensitively reveals the praise and the pains that accompany that role.
The narrative shifts with every chapter, as the story focuses on each of the women in turn. Yet, the authors tie all of their stories together through their every-other-week lunch meetings at a café outside of their community. As the wives share their tears and triumphs, the bond between them grows and the characters become more defined to the readers.
Most noteworthy is the fact that this book doesn't come across as being 'preachy'. Although these women encounter difficulties in their roles as pastors' wives, the authors don't offer a "I'll-pray-for-you" response. Instead, these godly gals put their collective faith and friendship on the line for each other, showing forth the love of Jesus in their very real acts of caring.
