Miakaela knew she was to be the Gift of Flesh for the Envoy coming to see the Monarch. Though she's a cheerful person, she has worried often on what would become of her once that time came. The Envoy's name is Naissun. He's taller than most men she's known of and she knows that the man he'll deliver her to happens to be a bit barbaric in nature, Miakaela realizes Naissun is a man worthy of her respect. She was The Tribute, thus something coveted by many men and Naissun's duty is to protect her.

On their ride, they speak and Mia finds herself liking this man. Though fierce and dominant, she finds herself trusting him. In all the things they survive together, Mia finds herself wanting and liking Naissun more and more. Even Naissun, himself, is finding The Tribute to be something more than he was told. He fears for her going to King Regit. They share one night of passion, of love. They know that if it becomes known, that they both can lose their lives. What will happen to them once they are before the King?

This is a riveting story with a thrilling conclusion. The world in which this story takes place is wonderful and creative. Diane Lau has a unique voice and gives great detail yet not overly much where you feel dumped upon. Truly a gifted wordsmith, you'll truly enjoy reading Gift of Flesh and relishing in true love found in the strangest of places.
