Rating: 9 Gargoyles
The dreaded Vulture Clan was alive. Possessing no honor whatsoever, they were supposed to have been destroyed generations before. Just as disturbing was the appearance of the Bastard Breeds, the children of Vulture rape victims. Allied with the humans, the Vultures and the Bastards were waging war against the Winged Clans.
How do you fight an enemy you believed was destroyed? That's the question Dearn, King of the Clans was asking himself. With so many missing from the different clans and in some cases, entire clans missing, this was going to be a hard war to fight, let alone win. The Clans were outnumbered and though they trained daily, hadn't fought a real battle in generations. They desperately need allies, but where to find them?
The children of rape, the Bastard Breeds had been sentenced to death with the remaining Vultures. Unlike their Vulture counterpoints, the Clan blood ran true and they possessed great honor and loyalty. Their plan was simple: pretend to support the Vultures and secretly sabotage their plans along the way.
As the final confrontation draws near, Dearn must decide whether or not to trust the Bastard Breeds and in the process change his peoples' laws and perceptions.
It's a rare occasion when I find a book that I think deserves more than 9 gargoyles; Broken Wings is one of those novels. Leigh has penned an action-packed, emotional roller coaster tale one cannot forget nor does one wish to. By deftly weaving suspense, action, fantasy, and romance, Leigh creates a multilayered emotional tale and sets the stage for future novels in this world. The very first chapter sucks you in and refuses to let you out. It will have you quivering in grief, gnashing your teeth in rage and weeping for the unfairness of it all. And the journey is just beginning.
Having mentioned how wonderful I found Broken Wings, I must offer a word of caution: there is a fair amount of violence. However, this is not violence for the sake of violence; it is integral to the story.
Broken Wings is a gem and not to be missed!

It is an August family Christmas, the epilogue fans of the August series have been waiting for.
When the story opens, we see Marley in labor with Cade's child. This is an exciting, nerve-wracking event for the entire August family. Little Drace is born, healthy and happy. However, the August women are not happy. What is bothering Marly, Heather and Sarah?
It is now six months later and things have changed even more in the August household. For one thing, the women are not getting along as much as they used to. Besides that, the men are feeling anxious and even sexually frustrated, all because they cannot seem to communicate with their wives. The wives have made a pact not to share their fondest wishes with their husbands. They must figure out what the wives want for themselves.
August Heat may be a quickie, but it ties things up nice and neat for the beloved August family. There is plenty of heat packed into this little story, enough to titillate and excite. As all the women are acting sad and forlorn, it is difficult not to feel for them, as well as their husbands. I thought this to be a clever device to draw the readers into this story, holding out the intrigue until the very end. I am thrilled the August men survived their horrid experiences and that Brock, Sam and Cade all have loving wives who always know just what their husbands need.
If you are a fan of Ms. Leigh's works, be sure to pick up August Heat. Though this is a "final healing" for the August men, there will be more August family for us to enjoy. Ms. Leigh has The Men of Madison in store for us.
