In their previous adventures, Joe, Polly and Sam met some the Greek gods and goddesses and helped them using the elements of water, earth and air. When a message appears out of a campfire, they are both thrilled and disappointed. This adventure involved the final element and meant their magical adventures were almost over.
To begin this adventure, the children had to find objects of copper, gold and silver and travel by dawn, daylight and moonlight. Along the way, they are joined by three Fire Children and receive further instructions. But completing this task wouldn't be easy, and one of the six travelers would not return.
A magnificent ending to a wonderful series. As in the previous books, the sibling relationship is depicted masterfully, made even more special by how they help each other cope with death. The children learn what it means to be a hero and the sacrifices it sometimes entails. My one complaint is that the series is over; I would love to see more of Joe, Polly and Sam.

Three feathers for flight. Three steps to the sky. Details to follow.
A simple message written in the sky and three unusual feathers floating right into their hands catapults Joe, Polly and Sam on another magical elemental adventure.
In previous adventures, they had explored Poseidon's realm and helped Persephone return to the Underworld and Hades. They were pretty sure this adventure would involve more Greek gods and they were right. The feathers had been sent by Athena and would aid them on their journey to restore a lonely hero.
A beautiful trek through Greek mythology combined with lessons in cooperation and understanding, Wind Spell is an enjoyable treat for young and old. Ms. Loehr continues to build upon the sibling relationship, allowing the reader to identify with Joe, Polly and Sam. They are unforgettable in their humanness. Don't miss.
