Miriam and Her Brother Moses is a retelling of the Bible story of how Moses was saved as a baby to grow up and save his people from destruction in Egypt. The Hebrews were slaves in Egypt under a wicked king named Pharaoh, who had ordered all baby boys be killed to prevent them from growing up to fight him as adults. Miriam's mother gave birth to a baby boy, and after attempts to keep him hidden any longer became too difficult, the decision was made to put him in a basket and hopefully have him float to safety downriver. However, Baby Moses began to cry and was spotted by Pharaoh's daughter, who was walking alongside the river. Taking the baby home to raise him as her own, Moses was saved and became a resident in the very person's palace who had ordered his death. Miriam and her mother helped care for Moses at the palace after the princess spotted her and asked for help in locating a nanny for the baby. This story ends with Moses recognizing who he really is as a young adult.

Jean Marzollo has begun a new series of Bible stories that are a must-have for a Christian children's library. With full-color illustrations that fit with the story perfectly, this first book in the series entitled Miriam and Her Brother Moses tells Moses' early years in simple humorous fashion. With a running commentary by the little fishes at the bottom of each page, and short songs to sing together, these stories will delight child and parent alike. I highly recommend these wonderful books!

Jean Marzollo brings the Bible story of David and Goliath to life with her retelling of this popular tale. Young children will especially like the full-color drawings done by Ms. Marzollo, which add tremendously to the depth of this story. Written with simple words and phrases, David and Goliath is a book sure to have your children begging you to "read it one more time, Mommy". I really enjoyed the cute and cuddly sheep dancing across the bottom of each page, adding their own comments from a sheep's point of view. This is a book that should have a definite place on any Christian youngster's bookshelf.
