Aside from Imitation Is Limitation, I have not read any of the other books by best-selling author, John Mason. However, now that I have seen what type of a writer he is, I just might have to go back and check out some of his other titles. Why? Because Mason, at least in his latest release, is like a man filled with philosophical insight.
Imitation Is Limitation reads like a book of proverbs. It contains quotes from spiritual leaders, famous people, and his own deep and meaningful one-liners. When I say "one-liners" I do not mean to detract from the power of what is written. Mason writes things like, "Obstacles are merely a call to strengthen, not quit," and, "the person who walks in someone else's tracks never leaves his own footprints."
Mason quotes Calvin Coolidge, who said, "No man was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave." Aside from an occasional story, half a page long or so, the book is paragraph-after-paragraph of these proverbs-like lines.
A quick read, with meaningful points on nearly each and every page, make Imitation Is Limitation, light and enjoyable. The downfall, if you are looking for something more deep and thoughtful, is that there isn't enough discussion or time spent on any one theme to provide any depth of insight. However, the overall feeling of encouragement and enlightenment do radiate from the passages.
