Simon Riley, a respected photojournalist, had left the small town of LaRue at seventeen. After his mother's death, he lived with his uncle Gus, who had a tendency to drink too much and often. When Gus became too hard to bear, Simon would escape to the safety his neighbor Ellen Kent offered. She was his refuge and even after he left he never forgot her. Never forgot the night he left when she professed her love and they had made love.

Now seventeen years later he was back to investigate his uncle's mysterious death. Deep down he hated this small town and the way everyone looked down at him, but he couldn't wait to see Ellen again. How would she react to his presence?

Ellen had never forgotten Simon or her love for him. He was her first lover and the only one she really wanted, but after seventeen years she'd given up hope of ever seeing or hearing from him. Feeling like it was her best chance of having the family she wanted, she'd accepted Brad Mitchell's proposal. Her life may have not been perfect, but she did have the Bed and Breakfast she'd always wanted to run. Only one thing could upset the life she'd made for herself and he had just checked into her B&B.

Seeing Ellen once again brought back all of his old feelings and he was determined to have her. But would he be able to convince her to move outside her comfort zone and engage in a wild passionate relationship? Convincing her to act outside the accepted behavior was difficult, made even more so by the mysterious attacks. Just who is behind the attacks and what do they have to do with Gus' death? And what of El's engagement to the town's golden boy?

Ms. McKenna is definitely an author to watch. Simon and Ellen light up the pages, their relationship with each other volatile, emotional and scorching. At times threatening to steal the novel, the secondary characters make their mark and are not easily forgotten. Ms. McKenna writes with a great passion, you can easily see how much she enjoys her craft. Return to Me is not to be missed.
