The Innocence of God upholds the integrity and sovereignty of the Almighty, while challenging some centuries-old assumptions. In this scholarly and insightful book, Udo Middelmann presents compelling evidence that exonerates God from charges of weakness and indifference Each page slices through the rhetoric of antagonistic arguments and gets to the important life issues.

On a personal note, this book came into my life while I was grappling with several hard questions from an atheist. As I was trying to formulate an intelligent response, I opened the pages of Udo Middelmann's book, never realizing what a treasure trove of thoughts awaited me. Although his style of writing is calm and quiet, there is a solid and certain stand for the truth. Insights, precepts and problems are handled with a logical mind and a faith-filled heart. While eliminating some long-held assumptions (dare I say inconsistencies), the author gently but firmly lays a thought track before the reader, pointing to paths that provide a more complete understanding of the character and nature of God.

Since Calvinism has largely shaped the modern church's comprehension of God's relationship with humanity, the dismantling of some of these ideas may be troubling to readers. Yet, it's this very type of intellectual and spiritual struggle that these pages seek to produce. By coming to a new and more appropriate way of believing in God's ultimate sovereignty, this defining issue of the faith will be better presented to a world that needs answers.

And now, I can confidently go back and answer those hard questions from the atheist, because I have a clearer picture of The Innocence of God. Thank you, Udo Middelmann for writing a book that is as bold as it is beneficial.
