Barak Q'Young is still trying to adjust to life above ground. Living among his enemies, the Paladins, hasn't been easy; but he is determined to find the person behind the theft of the precious blue gems. Assigned to work with the delectable Lacey Sebastian, Barak must now fight his growing attraction to her. Or is she the one to heal his soul?

Growing up among the Paladins, Lacey is quite aware of their intense need to be alpha and lord over everyone. Her brother still tries it from time to time. Having lost many friends to the war between the Others and the Paladins, she has devoted her life to studying volcanoes in an attempt to discover what effect they have on the barrier between Earth and the world of the Others. Barak is not what she expected from the blood-thirsty, crazed Others. Loving him will be a battle due to his unique position among the Paladins, but she's willing to risk everything for him. Will that change when she learns his secret?

In Darkness Reborn is intriguing with an unique storyline and fully-developed characters. While I enjoyed the story, I had too many questions still unanswered at the end. Who were the Others? Why did they feel the need to cross over? Why did the Paladins kill them? Who created the Paladins? Granted, some of these questions are meant to be answered in later books. While categorized as stand-alone within a series, In Darkness Reborn isn't really a stand-alone. One needs to read the previous titles in this series to keep the secondary characters straight, not to mention gain a better understanding of the Paladins. Normally not having my questions answered would keep me from reading other title by an author, however, this world captured my attention and I'll be reading the previous titles and the ones to come.
