Sister of the Moon by Janeen O' Kerry is a story between a mortal man and the Queen of the Sidhe. The Faerie Queen has decided to take a husband and she wants Anlon. He's not a knight or even a king. He's a commoner with visions of more. She calls to him and makes him promises. However, she knows the Sidhe will have problems with a mortal being their king. So she allows a Fey to also compete against Anlon. Though she loses her heart to Anlon, she knows she must do what's right for her people.
This story is more of how Anlon proves his worth not only to Scahta, queen of the Sidhe, but to her people as well. Though underlying in the story is their romance, it's not the focus of this book. That was probably the only thing that rankled me since this book was dubbed a historical romance. The trials of Anlon, who's actually part Sidhe himself, captivates you. You want him to succeed because you know that deep down he is truly king material. There are moments where you want to smack Scahta for playing Cian against Anlon. Then you realize that she has to do what's right for her people, who are dying due to men's rudeness. When you discover that their tribe of Sidhe is the only surviving tribe, things get harder for Anlon. He must lead the Sidhe against his own kind or find a way to save them. What he does shows how right Scahta was for wanting this mortal as her love and as king of the Sidhe.
Janeen O'Kerry weaves a story that captivates the senses. Though I was disappointed that this wasn't more romance oriented, I did enjoy this work very much. I can't wait to read more from her. I've begun to go back and get her other works as well.
