Janette Oke, recipient of the 1992 ECPA President's Award and the 1999 CBA Life Impact Award for her significant contribution to the Christian publishing industry, has won both the Gold Medallion Award and the Christy Award for fiction.
Her latest work, I Wonder, Did Jesus Have a Pet Lamb, is geared toward readers 4-8 years old. With vivid, lively illustrations, Oke is able to help young believers begin to realize that Jesus was, perhaps, a child-not very different from children today. She asks questions that make Jesus more "real" and more "three dimensional."
For me, as I read the book through a second time, I found myself relating to Christ in a way I had not before. The book may make it easier for children to begin to develop a relationship with the Son of God as they picture Jesus playing games, spending time with His grandfather, and owning, perhaps, a pet lamb.
A beautiful story, with beautiful illustrations...I Wonder, Did Jesus Have a Pet Lamb, will make for a meaningful bed time story that kids will want to hear over and over again, night after night-and will also open a doorway for parents and kids to discuss the life of Jesus. I speak from experience. I have three children. And we love to read and re-read the book.
