Author Barbara Oleynick gives readers more than just a story in this book! These pages reflect her religious beliefs, which center on her search for the sound of peace. She borrows heavily from Christianity while also distancing herself from any organized religion. The result is a unique tale that may capture the interest of those who are looking for answers outside of traditional thinking.
A young girl of thirteen gives birth to a baby in a secluded area and then abandons her. Arthur, a man of genuine love and convictions, finds the baby and takes her home to his wife. As the years pass, it becomes obvious that this child was sent to earth to save mankind. The baby was named Grace, and now she must act upon her calling to heal the wounds of the world.
The book is well written and has some truly memorable characters. The contrast between good and evil was shown in the lives of the key people. The author slowly sets up the opposition between these two forces, and then reveals the answer to the world's problems. It appears that the rest of the series will explore this idea and develop the character of Grace and her ability to heal.
Although the author has zealously created a story to expound her doctrine, the book lacks the depth needed to convince readers of these beliefs. The mixing of Christianity and mysticism caused some confusion for this reviewer. Readers may appreciate an explanation of the religious philosophy that drives this story. Perhaps the rest of the trilogy will further explore the convictions behind the characters.
