Debut author Madalyn Reese will intrigue you with No Place to Hide.

Jewelry designer and owner of Toliver's Treasures and Beautiful Things, Emma Toliver, is being stalked. Just when Emma is finally ready to call the police after numerous threatening emails, who should show up at her door? Anthony Bracco. A couple of years ago, Emma had fallen in lust with Anthony, a former corporate raider, who once tried to take her store. Emma listens with disbelief as Anthony tells her that the same stalker after her is out to get him, and that the FBI are going to protect them at the same time. However, Emma must agree to play along with Anthony. What does Anthony propose? Why is the same man after the both of them?

Anthony spent years trying to get away from his father's ruthlessness. He knows what he did to Emma a couple of years ago was wrong, that he used her as a pawn in his war with his father, but he felt he had no other choice at the time. Even before the stalker danger, Anthony has done much to secure and assist Emma's business growth and success, even though she is unaware of his help.

Now that they are forced together, their mutual attraction, which almost became explosive two years ago, is at a boiling point once again. While Emma and Anthony are fighting for their safety and their lives, they are also trying to decipher their emotions. Before they can go on, however, certain things have to be clarified. For example, Emma needs to understand what Anthony's motivations were and what his plans will be once the threat is removed.

The range of emotions both Anthony and Emma experience during No Place to Hide was rather touching - from anger, to empathy, to concern, to love. Anthony did what he did to free himself from his father's hold, and only after that, was he able to change his life. Will his changes allow him and Emma to plan a future together? Emma's devotion to her business is self-destructive, and those in her path are so devoted to her that they'll do anything they can to stop her from destroying herself. Who will she trust enough to recognize that?

The dual battle of the case of the stalker and the growing relationship with Emma and Anthony get equal time in No Place to Hide. Madalyn Reese did an amazing job creating the perfect amount of tension, while keeping the surprises until the very end. One way she did this for me was that early in the book, I was convinced that I was certain as to the stalker's identity. However, things didn't turn out as I thought they would, so by the end of the book, the shock was palpable. Kudos to Ms. Reese for catching this reader off-guard!
