Blue Springs leaps with life! From the opening page to the very last word, this story was written in technicolor.
Eleven-year-old Charlie Nash and his beloved dog, Taffy, would have been happier if Charlie's father didn't drink. After a disastrous hunting trip, father and son part company- the father to jail and the son to points unknown. Charlie hops a train to start a better life for him and his dog out west. He takes his coin collection, thinking he can sell it to buy food, never realizing he was in possession of several priceless pennies. These coins put him in danger, but a series of surprising events lead him in a new direction.
Peter Rennebohm knows how to write a great story. From visually descriptive passages to characters that practically breathe in readers' ears, these pages pack a punch. The events are viewed through Charlie's eyes, giving them a poignancy that is particularly powerful. As this young boy struggles with an abusive and drunken father, his innocence pierces through the darkness of the drama. Charlie's special relationship with Taffy is shown with compelling and compassionate details, offering readers a heartwarming glimpse of a love that pulses with purity.
Yet, it's the web of danger that weaves this story together. As Charlie is stalked by some bad men, the tension escalates with startling swiftness. An intriguing mixture of brutality, deception and hope keep these pages turning, while readers alternate between gasps of surprise and sighs of satisfaction. A delightful nostalgic touch is felt as the world of 1955 America is recreated with realism.
Excellent writing and an exciting plot makes Blue Springs bubble with emotion!
