It was supposed to be an easy trek through the caves, a fun activity during their vacation. But for Lem, Renee and Courtney, it quickly became a fight for survival. On their way to the main cavern, the floor gave way and they fell into a cavern below. Courtney is knocked unconscious, Renee's leg is broken and their guide is dead, for the moment Lem is their only hope. As time passes, the three strangers open up to each other, becoming more like family.

Besides their current situation, what could a runaway teenager, junior law partner and estranged businessman possibly have in common? Will the bonds they form while trapped last if the rescue team is successful?

Fast-paced and gripping, Catalyst is an emotional roller coaster, full of twists and turns. The reader is poised on the edge of their seat, waiting to see what will happen to Lem, Renee and Courtney. Questions race through the reader's mind: will the rescue team get there in time? What's going to happen if another landslide occurs? In between the questions, the reader becomes emotionally attached to the characters. They're all decidedly human, with flaws and past hurts, each reaching for help in their own way.

Mr. Richdale is a gifted author. I read Catalyst in an hour; I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the characters, loved them for strengths and for their weaknesses. They aren't larger-than-life, they're everyday people you would meet on the street. If the rest of Mr. Richdale's novels are anything like Catalyst, I will be adding them to my keeper shelf as well.
