Normally when it comes to anything business-y or leadership oriented, I'm the one running away and hiding under any object so I'm not chosen to lead anything. I will state to my dying days that I'm not a leader, regardless of what others say. Then I was given this book to review and I found myself reading and thinking about the valuable lessons within in this book, It Takes a Lot More than Attitude. And I mean valuable. It helped me realize a person can learn to lead and do so effectively, even if they are not born with that innate talent and attitude. It also suggests something that simply astonished me: it suggests businesses find ways to keep and promote loyalty among its employees. In a world where loyalty is no longer wanted or needed, this book shows that not only by being loyal but rewarding loyalty shows initiative and nets better long term results. It also talks about risk taking and how paying for their employees to learn more skills can net a business better benefits.

Though there are parts of the book that lost my interest (as I said, I'm not a leader type), overall this book helped me not just to understanding the business mentality, but also how to benefit my own career as an employee in a Fortune 500 company. You don't have to be the big leader, but you do need to know how to make yourself worthwhile in a time when you feel that no one cares. Kudos to Mr. Robbins for an insightful book that helps to organize things in a timely, quick reading manner. I'll probably be finding myself rereading as I learn more and go through my schooling, but some of the principles are being put into action now, for the benefit of myself and the company I work for.
