My Book of Bible Stories is a collection of short Bible stories from both the Old and the New Testament. All of the familiar stories from the Bible are included, and most are only two or three pages long. As a fan of Lois Rock's Learning About...series, I was excited to learn she had written a collection of Bible stories for young children. I was, however, somewhat disappointed with this book as it shortened many of the stories so much it left out what I felt were relevant details to the meaning of the stories themselves. While it tells many of the most popular stories found in the Bible, many of the stories were shortened so much it confused my children and I found myself having to fill in details which I felt should have been included in the written story I was reading to them.
The pictures, done by Carolyn Cox, are watercolor paintings and are fairly detailed. Some of the pages contain type over the color pictures which made it somewhat difficult to read, with the words and the color blending together. While I admire Ms. Rock's attempt at the retelling of Bible stories for children, I feel there are other books which would be a better purchase.
