Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. As one family lights the first candle, the son sees the moon shining. One light for one candle. The following night the second candle is lit and the boy notices another light. By the end of Chanukah he has found lights to complement all the candles.
Capturing the magic and joy of Chanukah while entertaining is difficult, but Rosen succeeds beautifully. Children learn about the holiday and sharpen their observation skills, locating the other lights. Iwai’s illustrations are familiar and inviting. A lovely book.
