It was Peren Matthew's twenty-fourth birthday, but somehow, she couldn't get over the loss of Kyle. Lukian Vlakhusha and his friend, Roi, had a mission- to kill Peren. Yet, something wasn't right and his team abort the mission while Peren blows up at her friends, then taking off, feeling guilty about feeling attracted to Lukian while still mourning her dead lover. Lukian, Lance, and Roi were more than they seem to be. Lukian had over a hundred years on him but he was also lycan. Little does Lukian realize that Peren wasn't quite normal either. She had been bitten by a werewolf early in her life and possessed empathic abilities.

Someone else was hunting Peren. Someone who wants her dead and gone. When her blood is analyzed they find traces of various species and some unknown attached to Peren's DNA. What does this mean? More importantly, they realize that her father is the one who started and helped begin Immortal Ops. She needs Luke at her side, to let her sleep without nightmares, yet it becomes more. There is something deep between them and Lukian knows that he's found his soulmate. They drive each other wild, but there's still the issue that someone wants Peren dead. But who could it be? Where could they get some answers?

As Peren and her friends compare notes, Melanie relates that Lance takes her three times but that he also changed form. Lukian knows that Peren is his soulmate, but his soulmate has the possibility of shifting into more than thirty forms, including some midlevel demon forms as well. The only thing is that Peren has no idea of any of this. They end up back at her house, and her father isn't out to greet her like he normally is. Is it a trap? Who would do this to Peren or her father? What was the plan?

This story is HOT! The attention to detail is riveting as is the depth of the characters. I won't give you the rest of the story, but Mandy Roth kicks ass in this story. I've loved her site and I've been waiting until the right time to read Immortal Ops. Now I have and I need more. If you want a unique story that pieces many paranormal elements together seamlessly and gives you a satisfying hot conclusion, Immortal Ops is the book for you.

Gwyneth Stevens works with Kenneth Harpel for the state. He was lead prosecuting attorney, usually dealing with supernatural occurrences. Though most cases never make it to court, they still had to be dealt with. Gwyn was part Si (Fey) blood and possessed some abilities, but not all are under her control. He sends her out to Necro's Supernatural World, a theme park with a paranormal theme. She's to speak to Mr. Pallo, a master vampire. Once there, she runs into a blonde vampire that would give many of the rock stars from the 80's a run for their money.

When she meets Pallo, there's something very familiar about him, something she can't quite place, though she's more than willing to do other things with him, though she tries hard to focus on the job at hand. They're looking into hellhound problems, including a hellhound murder. Things go from bad to worse. Pallo warns Gwyn that it's best to let it go. She finds herself falling for the vampire, not sure how it was happening or why. He even provides a portal to the Faerie Realm and lets Gwen wander around there. Then all hell breaks loose when a troll attacks her. She meets Caleb and once again, things happen beyond Gwen's control and also beyond Caleb's and Pallo's. Through this no one takes the time to explain to her what is going on and she's left in the dark.

Mandy Roth has created a story that transfixes you into wanting to know more. The story between Caleb, Pallo, and Gwen is something truly deep and unusual. Though I had some issues with the fact that neither Pallo nor Caleb would take the time to explain any aspect of Gwen's previous life with her, I found the tale erotic, exciting and damn interesting. The story is deep and convoluted, but you're drawn deeper and deeper into the world beyond what Gwen remembers. This is a well crafted story. As I said, my biggest problem is that Gwen at times just takes the fact that no one tells her anything and doesn't do anything to correct that oversight and she's so willing to believe the worst of Pallo though she can sense when people are lying or not but doesn't seem to get it that Pallo tells her the truth, which almost puts her into my TSTL category, but due to her instincts as well as her self possession, Gwen has many other strengths that compensate for that flaw in the storyline.

Daughter of Darkness is a great story, one that's intriguing and I hope there's more to come. If you want a different view of the faeries, vampires, and other paranormal creatures, you'll enjoy this story.
