Servant of the Gods was written by a master storyteller! Amy Wolff Sorter has creatively combined the Biblical account of the prophetess, Deborah, with believable dialogue and character motivation. The result is an exciting novel, packed with powerful insights and memorable moments.

This novel is based on the fourth and fifth chapters of the book of Judges. Deborah was a spiritual leader in Israel during a time when the Canaanites oppressed her people. She had prophetic gifts, which enabled her to hear messages from God and to communicate His will to those around her. Because of her determined influence, she led the children of Israel to a great victory over their enemies.

The author has faithfully stayed within the framework of the Scriptural record, while developing the story with historical facts. Appropriate dialogue breathes life into her words, causing these ancient people to step in to the minds of modern day readers. The point of view shifts from Deborah to a narrative account, thereby providing an overall look at the events.

The setting is described with vivid and gritty details. The thoughts of the people and their views on religion are captured in well-written scenarios. The code of honor and the ethics of both the Israelites and the Canaanites are portrayed skillfully. The brutality of Baal stands in the background of this story and furnishes the motivation for the characters. There is an amazing mixture of the sacred and the secular. The tension mounts with increasing action, and the climax of the book is nothing short of startling!

Servant of the Gods is certain to capture readers!
