Last year, Jerome Teel exploded onto the political thriller scene with the release of his debut novel, The Election. Full-time attorney/author Teel is out to prove he's not just a one hit wonder. His second novel, The Divine Appointment, is a powerful, fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat suspense novel that makes plenty of promises, and delivers.

As if pulled from recent headlines during the Bush administration, a Supreme Court Justice dies, and the president of the United States of America now has the chance to fill that opening with a specific type of judge. This new appointment would cause the scales to tip in favor of Republican conservatives. Pro-choice groups fear that the wrong appointed candidate would lead to the tampering and possible overturning of the infamous Roe v. Wade abortion case that, for decades, has made abortions legal in this country. The radical liberals will stop at nothing to keep the president's nominee from getting appointed.

Simultaneous to the chaos that is taking place in Washington, a young, pregnant woman has been murdered. As a favor to a client, attorney Eli Faulkner agrees to represent the arrogant (married) doctor accused of the murder. All the while, a down-on-his-luck reporter, excuse me, investigative reporter, receives an anonymous tip on the murder case. The tip leads him down a wild investigative path that has him poking dangerous holes into political plans that might not only land him a Pulitzer for investigative journalism, but at the same time, might cost him his life.

Teel composes tight chapters full of intrigue, suspense and wonderful characters. The dialogue is crisp, the scenes are fast-paced, and the tension is constant. There was a time when David Baldacci ruled the political thriller arena. I think a new king is town, and his name is Jerome Teel. This is definitely an author to keep your eye on!

I recently read and wrote a review for Jerome Teel's second novel, The Divine Appointment. I loved Teel's writing so much that I immediate got my hands on and began he reading his first, The Election. I hoped that The Election would be an intense political thriller, as well. And it was!

It's a presidential election year. Democrats have the white house. Republican Mac Foster has one heck of a race ahead of him if he wants thinks he can beat the current Vice President Ed Burke running against him. However faith and an honest campaign might not be enough to land a victory.

Jake Reed is a small town attorney. When he agrees to help Jedediah McCellan on an upcoming mortgage foreclosure he knows there is little he can do to help. Jed needs to pay up what he owes, or bank tyrant Jesse Thompson is going to take the house away from Jed and his family. What Jake doesn't realize is that he has just involved himself in a case that is much larger and more dangerous than he ever could have imagined.

The Federalists, made up of three corporate powerhouses, don't only want Burke to be the next president, they stake the future of our country on his winning. The only problem is, the future they have in mind for the United States is a far different and more sinister than anyone could ever imagine.

When Thompson is murdered, and Jed is arrested for the killing, the web of deceit is completely out of control. No one is to be trusted. The FBI is looking for answers. Reed is digging for the truth. And somewhere out amid all of this is a hired assassin, a lingering deadline and a plan that, if it succeeds, will bring this country to its knees.

The Election is powerful, frightening, and impossible to put down. If you like mystery, suspense, and drama; taut scenes, crisp dialogue and constant action you will not want miss The Election.
