Kate North is back home. Six months ago, Kate left town to forget about one Manny Reyes. Manny is with the U. S. Border Patrol and works alongside Kate's father. The girlhood crush she had on Manny Reyes turned to lust, and possibly more. When Manny told her that he could not be any more than friends with her, because he was her father's partner, she was devastated. What will happen now that she is back in town? Is Kate going to continue to moon over Manny, or will Ramon Santiago, with whom she spent an evening with at a club her first night home, be enough to turn her head?
Manny has spent six months missing Kate. For five years they've been friends, more like brother and sister. But now that she's home? Oh no. Friends won't do it. He wants more. How much damage did he do before Kate left? Will Kate give him another chance? Once Manny makes his intentions clear, the question now is: What will Kate do now that two men are pursuing her?
What Kate doesn't realize at first is that Ramon Santiago is not what he seems, and before she knows its, Kate ends up right in the middle of a drug war. Will she cut Ramon off in time?
Borderline is an amazing story of love, trust and second chances, with an intense conclusion. It is very easy to see both Manny and Kate's motivations. Manny, in trying to be honorable, turns Kate away. It wasn't until he saw her again, that he realized how much he really wanted her. It was pleasing to read that Manny went to Kate's father for permission, even though she is a grown woman. Kate behaves like most women would. She was rejected by Manny, and now that he wants her, she is confused, especially because suave Ramon is pursuing her. It was gratifying to see her make the choices she did.
Tambra Knipp Vertrees did a wonderful job on Borderline. It is hard to believe this is her first book! If you want to read a nice romance, with a strong sense of mystery and suspense, take a moment and pick this book up.
