Aric is the youngest ever Master at Arms of Edouine, and he takes his duties very seriously. As important as his duties are, there is one thing, or person, that could make him shun his responsibilities - the King's daughter, The Princesse Amery. Due to the Caste system that exists, Aric can never wed her, thus he can never show his feelings and desires for her. During the war, Aric helps the King Alhdeade during a time when the Edouines could have lost the war. Aric is able to do this because he saved a sick Fey and was granted any wish he wanted. The traitorous King leaves an injured Aric at the side of the road, leaving him to die.
Amery was devastated when she heard Aric died in the war. What's more is her future is certain to be miserable when she finds out what her stepfather, the King, has in store for her. What happens when Amery sees Aric again?
Aric stumbled his way to the hut of an old lady, a witch who helped him recover from his wounds and fever. She had him repay her in work and chores. The last thing Aric was to do for the old witch was to retrieve a blue light for the witch that had fallen to the bottom of a well. Saving this light changed Aric's life forever.
The story starts out with intrigue, and quickly delivers passion that will leave the reader panting. Aric discovers that this blue light is much more than a light. It is a demi-elf, who Aric calls Blue. Blue can grant Aric any wish he wants, offer good advice and more. We know Aric once wanted Amery more than anything in the world, but now Aric wants revenge against her father, the King. Will Aric use Amery for revenge, or for passion?
For Once Upon a Midnight Blue to be a novella, it sure packs a wallop! There is passion, desire, deep emotion and intrigue in this story. The heat is at an all-time high. As always, reading a book by Shiloh Walker is a treat. Just published since July of this year, each book gets better and better, and this book is headed right for my keeper shelf.

Tori McAdams was bitten by a feral vampire named Manuel. A strong woman, Tori fought him, and managed to hurt him, so he bit her brutally and left her to die. When Tori realized how much danger she was actually in, there was only one person she knew to call, Declan Reilly. Even though she is very much drawn to Declan, she's avoided her feelings for him. Yet, she knows that he is the one person that can help her.
Declan has wanted Tori for months, and now that he has her, he is going to mate with her and save her. Declan is a shifter, a wolf. He quickly clarifies to Tori that he is not a werewolf. Because of this, Declan understands Tori and what she is going through, and he will bring her through this unbelievable change she's experiencing. Declan isn't sure why Tori isn't already completely changed - she can still tolerate sunlight and eat regular food. Why wasn't Tori changed after being bitten? What will it take for Declan to save her?
Tori finds herself compelled to Declan. She fought her feelings of attraction and passion to Declan for months before, mainly because he was a cop, and one of her rules was to having nothing to do with cops. When she needed him, she went to him. Now she feels since everything she ever knew has been taken away from her, she might as well act on and enjoy her body's responses to Declan.
Shiloh Walker has done it again - written a compelling story with fantastic character development. These characters will get under your skin, particularly Declan. He loves Tori deeply, and understands her needs and fears, and knows how to protect her. Tori's intelligence will attract readers as well. Her life has changed and for a while she has to depend on others in order to deal with things. Yet, she follows her instincts well.
The Hunters: Declan and Tori brings a newly turned vampire together with a wolf, and they develop an unbreakable bond. We also meet Eli, a vampire Hunter, who is an occasional partner of Declan's, as Declan is also a Hunter. Eli is a great aid to Declan and Tori in their attempt to rid Tori of Manuel. Readers will feel strongly for Eli. But this is Declan and Tori's story. If you want to find out if Eli finds a mate of his own, be sure to keep an eye out for The Hunters - Eli and Sarel, which is scheduled to debut at Ellora's Cave in December.
