It was a normal small Southern town. Once prosperous, but time had left its mark on Grimshaw. Times were hard, people were losing their farms, couldn't afford to feed their families, and were forced to leave their hometown to find work in one of the bigger cities. Desperate times call for desperate measures, right? But was even great desperation worth the life of a child?

Angel Fallow couldn't wait for the day she'd be able to leave Grimshaw. In her heart, she knew that day would never come. Call it instinct or whatever, she just knew she was going to die in Grimshaw, die before she ever had a chance to live a real life.

She hated her life. Hated her stepfather, hated the way her mother just let him beat her without standing up to him, hated the way the other kids teased and mocked her for having pale blond hair and blue eyes. She always stood out. Was always being punished by her stepfather for sinning, even when she hadn't done a thing. The only things that kept her sane were her grandmother and her best friend Peter St. Thomas.

Peter was her knight in shining armor, always trying to protect her, always cheering her up. But their friendship had to remain a secret; they couldn't risk Angel's stepfather finding out and punishing her for "sinning" with a boy. He'd never believe their relationship was merely platonic.

Lately things have become a bit odd in Grimshaw. So odd Peter had noticed and started discussing his theories with Angel. His theories strike a chord in Angel and she looks for clues as to what really happened to her father.

Murder, secrets and a town that sold its soul combine in author Macey Wuesthoff's newest novel, Sacrifice. Not a big fan of the horror genre, I found myself reading the blurb, starting Sacrifice and soon was unable to stop reading. I had to know what happened. Had to know who was behind the cult, had to know if Angel and Peter would be saved. Ms. Wuesthoff takes vivid, well-fleshed out characters, adds a fast paced, tightly woven plot and gives readers a spectacular ride. One that forces them to think, sends shivers up their spine and bite their nails in worry. Sacrifice is an amazing novel by a very talented author. Very highly recommended.
